34 Residents At Meeting
Thirty-four residents of the Kendal avenue area crowded into the Waimairi County Council chambers last evening to hear a discussion on whether the zoning should be amended to allow the erection of a service station in the avenue. Kendal avenue runs off Memorial avenue near Wooldridge road and has underground wiring.
The council, at a previous meeting approved the erection of the service station subject to objections. Eightyfive were received and a deputation of residents made representations at the last meeting of the council’s town planning committee. However, in spite of the objections, the conimtitee recommended the council adhere to its original decision to grant a conditional use in a residential A zone to allow the service station in the area. When the matter was raised last evening, Cr. C. B. Baker, a member for the riding concerned, moved that the decision be rescinded After a brief discussion, other councillors agreed and his motion was carried. Most of the onlookers then left.
