DIED DURING FIRE
Woman Alone In House (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 13. A woman died during a fire which destroyed part of a two-storey house in Balmoral road, Auckland, early this morning. She was: Mrs Frances Ver* Davie, aged 72, of 136 Balmoral road, Balmoral. Firemen found her body In a hallway in a part of the house which had not been touched by the flames. The alarm was given by a neighbour who heard Mrs Davie calling from an upstairs window shortly before 3 a.m. When the brigade arrived, the fire had a strong hold on the lower part of the building. Before firemen could get upstairs to Mrs Davie they had to extinguish the fire downstairs. They used breathing apparatus to get to Mrs Davie after thick smoke had blocked their first attempt to enter the house, Mrs Davie was the only occupant of the house. Her husband was sway in Christchurch.
