A British Medical Association spokesman said yes’erday mothers who smoke tend to have smaller babies. “It is now an accepted fact that smoking affects the size of babies.” he said. A doctor commented: “Women are more likely to have premature babies if they smoke, and in general their babies are smaller." They were corroborating findings by American doctors. who have come up with more evidence that a mother's smoking affects the size of her baby (.American Report on page 26)
