ARRIVAL OF MARSDEN

Commemoration Next Year (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. The celebrations in December, 1964, of the 150th anniversary of the first landing of the Rev. Samuel Marsden in New Zealand would be assisted by a Government grant of £l2OO, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Leon Gotz) announced tonight. It would help to bring the Rev. R E. Marsden of Cornwell, a great-grandson of Marsden, to New Zealand and to send a Maori priest to England, he said. Mr Marsden would take part in celebrations of the anniversary in the Bay of Islands. He and the Maori priest would do parochial work and lecturing. The Anglican Church in New Zealand would pay part of the travelling expenses and, with church authorities in Britain, would be responsible for internal travel and accommodation.
