SCIENCE STUDY AWARDS IN CHEMISTRY A number of Science Study Awards for students majoring | n Chemistry will be made by the State Services Commission ln J 96- Tliese awards provide excellent opportunities for students to attend university full time to complete Science degrees. Awards are open to students who are about to enter the third year at university, but any stage would be considered. Consideration will also be given to school leavers with at least University Entrance who are about to take up a university career in Science majoring in Chemistry. The awards are made annually until the degree is completed, provided that satisfactory progress is maintained. Students who graduate under this award will be bonded to work for the Department of Justice in the Patent Office as Chemistry Examiners, working in the field of industrial chemistry for the number of years that assistance has been granted. Employment in the Patent Office would be provided for students during their vacations Allowances: (1) Study Awards are tenable with Education Department fees or fees and allowances bursaries. (2) An allowance of £135 p.a. is payable m addition to any Education Department bursary held. (3) A boarding allowance when applicable for fees and allowances bursars will be paid by the Education Department. A fees-only bursar may, in special circumstances and when necessary, be paid a £5O boarding allowance for the first year of his study award (4) A married student may receive a marriage allowance of £175 p.a. in addition to other allowances. This is reducible to £95 p.a. if the student is receiving a boarding allowance through an Education Department bursary. Applications close on Wednesday. November 27, 1963, and should be made by letter to the Secretary, Department of Justice, Wellington. Final selection will be made in late January, 1964.
