CLASH OF COACHES
Club Told Not To Compete The United Lawn Tennis Club will be asked not to circularise schools and clubs offering the services ot the Australian profpftsionai tennis coach. L. Attains, in opposition to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's coach, P Hubrich This was decided a<t a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association after discussion on a report on coaching presented by Mr S. T. Day. Mr Day said that many clubs in Christchurch were not using Hubrich's services although he was the official coach for the association's sponsored juraor coaching Mr R. B Brown said that last year there had been a clash when the United club had circularised schools and clubs offering Atkin's services as a coach and some schools and clubs had taken this offer although the Canterbury association had a coach. Mr Day said that Hubr.ch was going to coach in Dunedin but now the Otago Association had decided to use Atkins. Mr Brown asked if the New Zealand council had any jurisdiction on this matter and was told by the chairman <Mr M C Healey) that coaching was a matter tor the individual association. Mr Brown then asked if the Canterbury association had a specific jurisidiction over clubs who wanted to have a coach other than the association's. Mr Healey replied that if a club wanted have its own coach that was its own matter but it could not take advantage of the subsidised junior coaching scheme and should not. even indadvertently, be in a position where it was in opposition to the official juruoc coaching programme.
