ROLE OF MACHINERY IS IMPORTANT
One of the most important facets of any agricultural and pastoral show is the display of farm machinery and equipment and all the other trade exhibits. The importance of this aspect of a show is reflected in the continually growing number of exhibits which come forward each year. The Christchurch metropolitan show can lay claim to be the association with the largest display of farm machinery anywhere in New Zealand.
At this year’s show, the trade displays will occupy a total in the vicinity of 250,000 square feet, in Which every conceivable type of agricultural machinery, from sheep dips, to tractors and attachments, will be on show. In recent years there has been a tendency to exhibit earth moving machinery in ever increasing numbers. The large contracting firms are becoming very conscious of the fact that most county councils throughout the country are made up to a greater extent of farmers and they use the oppor-
tunity of the show to display their commercial equipment to this section of the community. On display at the Christchurch show are all the new machines available, as well as those with the latest changes and modifications and the value of displaying at a show can be borne out in many instances by the number of farmers who place orders with firms for machinery they require, while at the show. The Agricultural and Pastoral committee is also well aware of the farming community’s own endeavours to improve and modify machinery and implements and each year at recent shows there has been a class for implements designed by farmers. This class creates considerable interest and is also an encouragement to those farmers who can design and build useful farm implements.
