German Talks Annoy Britain

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 12. A State visit to Indonesia by the West German President, Dr. Heinrich Lubke, followed by hints of economic aid, is reported to have angered Britain.

The “Daily Mail” said today a bitter clash was looming between Britain and West Germany over the matter. Britain had urged support for all her Western allies in resisting the Indonesian “confrontation” policy against Malaysia.

Instead, West-Germany had pressed ahead with offers of fresh help to Indonesia, the “Daily Mail” Said. The latest issue of a German Government publication, the “Bulletin,” had reported President Lubke’s talks in Indonesia covered aid. The “Bulletin" said the talks centred mainly on economics, German development aid and on trade expansion between the two countries. The article said President Lubke’s visit did much to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The “Daily Express" said the visit was arranged before President Soekarno’s furious reaction to Malaysia.
