Sir.—l have noticed that Rear-Admiral Wash bourn, on his official visit to Christchurch, is wearing the White Ensign on his official car. Having never heard of this before I should be grateful for an explanation as I am under the impression that officers ->f flag rank have their own personal flags as laid down in Queens Regulations and Admiralty Instructions. Surely the White Ensign is flown on Her Majesty's Ships and shore establishments only?—Yours, etc., BUNTS. November 5. 1963. I The Royal New Zealand Navy Regulations permit a flag officer to fly his flag on a motor-vehicle. A rearadmiral's flag is a St. George's cross with two red balls in the squares next to the standard; but RearAdmiral Washboum flew the white Ensign of the Navy on his car to indicate he is the professional head of the service. I
