REMEMBRANCE DAY
Service Held At St. Saviour’s Only one church, St. Saviour’s. Sydenham, held special Remembrance Day services on Sunday. A parade of returned servicemen and women from the city and suburbs wae organised by the SouJi Christchurch Suburban Committee of the Returned Services Association. The parade formed at 10 a.m. at the corner of Lawson street and Colombo street and marched to St. Saviour's. Although there were no special services, mention of the significance of the day was made at Anglican church services, said the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. W. A. Pyatt). The Bishop (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) preached at the national service in Wellington, he said. Remembrance Day replaces the former Armistice Day which was observed on November 11 to commemorate the signing of the Armistice in World War 1 on November 11, 1918.
