OPPOSITION TO GAMBLING
Church Call To Members (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 10. The annual conference of the Associated Churches of Christ has called on all its members not to gamble. A committee is to examine the Golden Kiwi lottery and will shortly present its policy. It has already protested to the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation about “excessive publicity” given to the lottery on the radio, and is considering a suggestion that lottery profits should be paid into the Consolidated Fund. Grants could be made from this fund to worthy causes, but not directly from the lottery profits. Subjects to be considered by the committee will be that publicity for the lottery on the radio should be restricted to just the winning ticket numbers and the use of lottery profits for an extensive advertising and educational campaign discouraging all forms of gambling.
