GOVERNOR'S BAY SCHOOL
Long Wait For New Building Over Four classrooms a day were being constructed by the Education Department to meet growing needs, the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr N. E. Kirk) told a gathering at the opening of the new £12,500 twoteacher school at Governor's Bay on Saturday. Mr Kirk said one New Zealander tn every three was under 10 years and one in every two under 30 years. The chairman of tire Governor's Bay School Committee (Mr D. Bray) said the Education Department had suggested a new school 42 years ago to replace the original school built 95 years ago. The new wooden building was one of the best in the country. The member of the Education Board for die district (Mr E. Rennie) said it was a pity that the people of Governor’s Bay had had to wait 42 years for the new school. He congratulated the school committee on its general activity and planting in the school grounds. Plans to make use of the original building were being considered and it was possible that the Child Welfare Division would use it to provide seaside holidays for children under its care. Other speakers were the chairman of the Mount Herbert County Council (Mr E. Radcliffe) and the headmaster (Mr K. R. Blick).
A-bomb Victims. The Youth Council of the Reformed Church in Amsterdam has begun a campaign to send flowers at Christmas to victims of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki still being nursed in hospitals there.—Amsterdam. November 10.
