£4000 CUP AT CAULFIELD
(N.Z. Prtu Assn —Copyright I MELBOURNE. Nov. 11. The New Zealand stayer Humquh will start in the £4OOO Sandown Cup at Caulfield on Saturday, if his injured off hock responds to treatment. His trainer, Eric Ropiha, said he would continue treating the injury and make a decision on the start before Sandown Cup acceptances on Wednesday. Ilumquh, second in the Melbourne Cup, had to be scratched from the V.R.C. Handicap on Saturday because of the injury. A cut off hind heel will not prevent the New Zealand stayer Summer Regent from starting in the Bendigo Cup on Wednesday. His owner, Mr Ron Walker, said today that the heel was cut in the rough Melbourne Cup last Tuesday. After inspecting the heel today. Mr Walker decided on a Bendigo Cup start, with his usual jockey, John Riordan, riding him. Summer Regent will fly back to New Zealand with Ilumquh. Lei. Tatua and possibly My Contact on November 19. Summer Regent will have a short spell, after which a decision will be made on whether he will tackle the Auckland and Wellington Cups. Mr Walker said that present plans are to return with Summer Regent for the autumn racing in Melbourne and Sydney next year.
