Great Sensation In Sharp Sprint

Great Sensation and R. J. Skelton, working partners in a rich and famous “firm," teamed up again at Riecairton yesterday morning with a gallop that gave fair notice of a bold run in tomorrow’s Canterbury Gold Cup. Skelton, just back from Melbourne, rode Great Sensation over a mile on the trial grass. There was not much action for a start, but the remarkable Wingatui veteran dashed in from the half-mile in 51sec, and none that galloped before or after on a wild, windy morning was any more impressive. Great Sensation looks and acts years younger than his I age. He has done a lot of work, and has thrived on it, and Riccarton will witness enthusiastic scenes if he wins fresh-up there tomorrow. Three North Islanders, Blyton. Repair, and Wilful, were teamed in another interesting gallop. Blyton, with J. F. Grylls up. came through this sevenfurlong trial with the honours. She trailed Repair (Andrews) and Wilful (Hughes) around the home turn, but pulled up quickly I on the outside, and strode away to a lead of a length and a half at the end. Repair was a length in advance jof Wilful. Blyton ran the seven furlongs in Imin 34 l-ssec and the last half-mile in 54sec. Miagician, which was sore after pulling a plate on Sunday and had his foot bathed later in the day. showed no signs of soreness after a gallop with On Account yesterday. Magician (M. J. Skelton) had the outside running and went to the post strongly on terms with On Account, which ran keenly in the hands of the light-weight, A Swanson. They recorded. Imin 33 4-ssec for seven furlongs. the last four in 53 2-ssec. and the final three in 40 l-ssec. Vitamiise was one of the best tried over a mate. Rid-i

Gauntlet (Wood) ran his mdle in Imin 49 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 55 l-ssec and tfie final three furlongs in 41 2-ssec. He soldom does anything spectacular in training. but is in great shape and has obviously thrived on the trip. Royail Leigh (McCann) ran his mile in Imin 51 2-ssec and the last h-alf in 56 3-ssec. Mhor (B. S. Dodds) quickened impressively in running the last half-mile of an easy mile in 51 4-ssec. He took Imin 50 4-ssec for the mile. He will have a winning chance at the meeting if he strikes a firm track. The Takanini two-year-old Boulevard (Andrew's) led Waif (Collins) over half a mile in 53 2-ssec. He started two lengths clear and doubled that margin going to the post. He should make an impression in the Irwell Han dicap tom orrow. Manana (Wildermoth) and Everglades (Stokes) ran half a mile almost at their leisure in 56 2-ssec. Shipmate (Stokes), another member of the Tom k inson team, recorded 53 l-ssec for his half-mile, time equalled by the Blenheim-trained hurdler, Cinnaman (Pope). Hushaway (Wildermoth) nan his half-mile in 53 2-ssec. and Zinder (Stokes) was restricted to a keenly-worked 55sec. The stablemates Hopeful (W. D. Skelton) and Mutineer (Messent) dashed in from the half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Corkscrew (N. Eastwood) led Arleigh (Grylls) by half a length after unning half a mile in 52 4-ssec. Arleigh picked up some ground close to the post. The Wingataui stablemates First Mink (R. J. Skelton) and Lucky Son (Mein) were abreast after running their half-mile in 52 l-ssec. Lady Merling (F. H. Skelton) and Crackle (W. D. Skelton) followed in 54 4-ssec.
