WAR PENSION RATES
Price Index As Guide (N2. Pres* Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. IL General agreement had now been reached between the Government and the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association on war disable ment and widows’ pensions, the Minister in Charge of War Pensions (Mr Kinsella) said tonight. Mr Kinsella, who was speaking at a meeting in Turua, said the future movement of the rate of these pensions would be worked out in relation to movement in the consumer price index compiled by the Government Statistician. The Returned Services’ Association had agreed that the present rates of £5 5s a week for disablement pensions and £3 17s 6d a week war w’idows’ pensions would form the basis for future reviews, which would be conducted each two years in April. He was particularly pleased that agreement on this problem had been reached for it would result in a more satisfactory method of obtaining justice for disabled servicemen and their dependants than the methods previously used, Mr Kinsella said. Some minor points of the agreement had still to be confirmed, but it was hoped that they would be announced in detail shortly.
