Summer Regent, the New Zealand-owned outright favourite for the Melbourne Cup, has drawn number 8 barrier position for the cup on Tuesday. Thirty-three horses seven more than the safety limit—were left in the cup last night. The Victoria Racing Club committee eliminated three horses, the former New Zealand gallopers. Tambula. Silvery Sands and Tamure. and declared four emergencies. The third favourite My Contact has drawn well with No. 7. but Maidenhead is right off the course with No. 22.
