N.Z. English "Superior,” Lutheran Pastor Finds
The warmth with which his family had been received and the delightful and superior English spoken by New Zealanders were the two things that had impressed him most, said the Rev. K. W. Sehuessler, the new parlor ait St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Christchurch. Mr Sehuessler. a graduate of the Lu.heran Seminary at Springfield. Illinois, arrived from the United States with his wife and three young children.
The New Zealand English was far superior to any other he had heard, said Mr Sehuessler, who is a student of languages. On the ship on which They had travelled to Auckland, the New Zealand speech stood out from the others. He was finding great pleasure in making a list of expressions as used by Americans and New Zealanders, he said. Mr Sehuessler said a large number of people met them at the airport, the manse had been supplied with furniture until their own arrived, the larder stocked, and people had called every day to welcome them to the city. He had been asked to be contact man for his church with the Armed Services Commission, said Mr Sehuessler. There were a number of Lutherans among the United States Antarctic Naval Support Force, he said. Another part of his work will be to give pastoral help to students. This was a i>ar-
ticular work of his church in the United States, he said. Pastor Sehuessler will be installed in a service at St. Paul’s at 11 p.m. on Sunday, when the preacher will be the Rev. C. I. Koch, of Auckland, president of the Lutheran Church of New Zealand.
Under an act that came into effect 32 years ago, students of the University of Alberta are the heirs to more than a million dollars.—Reuter.
