Sheep Drown In Flood
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Oct. 31.
At least 200 of the flock of 1000 ewes and lambs grazing on the river flat owned by the Greymouth Jockey Club were drowned when the Grey river rose on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning after heavy rain.
The monetary loss to the club will be between £5OO and £6OO.
When officials of the club first visited the area on Wednesday, they discovered the carcases of more, than 30 sheep and lambs against a fence which stood between them and higher land. However, more than 150 carcases have since been found, four i deep in places. The river dropped today. 1
