SPENDING ON ROADS
British Plan Extended
(N.Z.P .A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Oct. 29. The Minister of Transport, Mr R. E. Marples, announced yesterday that the cost of the road schemes he hopes to authorise in the next five years is about £212 million. The schemes will cover 111 major roads, including 36 new roads which will cost an estimated £45 million. The programme is an extension ot a five-year plan to improve Britain’s roads. Its aim is to bring the whole of Britain's trunk road system up to “an acceptable standard” by the early 1970’5.
