Home Opposed To Sanctions On S.A.
(N ZJ’.A -Reuter—Copy rig ht) ABERFOYLE (Scotland), October 29. The British Prime Minister (Sir Alec Douglas-Home) said at Aberfoyle last night that apartheid was an inhuman policy but that he was not prepared to see economic sanctions applied against South Africa.

tion tour of the Scottish constituency of Kinross and West Perthshire, ter which he is one of seven candidates Asked to state his views on apartheid. Sir Alec DouglasHome said: “I have said in public on many occasions that
it is an inhuman policy. That stands.
"It is the view of the British Govemmenit thait it should be altered by the South African Government," he said
"South Africa’s affairs are not our affaijrs. They are the affairs of the South African Government. I am not prepared to see economic sanctions applied against South Africa
"This is a wrong thing for the United Nations to indulge in. But we should do everything we ca-> to help the South African people to change their policies which are quite inhuman and wrong in the 20th century ” he said. At the port of Menteith last night Sir Alec DouglasHome said there was no chance of Britain going into the Common Market in the near future.
At a crowded meeting, he •aid: "We cannot at the present moment -end I don't
know that we can in the future— get into the Common Market even if we wanted it, because the French Government decided they didn’t wish us in.”
Sir Alec Douglas-Home sa<id there was a strong economic case for going into the market. The political case was that it would give Britain a place in the councils of Europe, where she would be able to influence decisions. "We always said we would only go if we got the right conditions for entry," he said. “We nearly got them right. "We were prevented from going in. If the occasion happened again—and I don't know if it will happen again —matters will have to be considered.” he said.
