SEIZURE OF EMBASSY

Indonesian Economics

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

DJAKARTA, October 28. The Indonesian Foreign Minister (Dr. Subandrio) today formally inaugurated the former Malayan Embassy in Djakarta as headquarters for the Indonesian Economic Development Command. This command was set up to handle economic development in Sumatra, the Rhios Islands and other areas bordering Malaysia. The former embassy, which was stoned by anti-Malaysia demonstrators last month, has been repaired and repainted and slogans scrawled on the fence have been wiped off. A cable from Kuala Lumpur says the Malaysian Government has sent “a stern protest" to Indonesia over the seizure of the Embassy. Malaysia Radio said the Malaysian protest, handed in by the Thai Embassy, Malaysia’s caretaker in Djakarta, described the Indonesian action Ss "unwarranted, unjrecedented, and contrary to nternational law."

The Indonesian Government would be responsible for any loss or damage incurred, and the Malaysian Government reserved the right to seek compensation, the broadcast said.
