Police Fire In Incident

Five strikers and a policeman were sent to hospital wil'Jh injuries today after a scuffle between police and sjriking workers at the Royal Navy base in Singapore. Several policemen suffered minor injuries. Eight strikers were anrested. The scuffle began when a large crowd of pickets formed a barricade to stop non-striking workers from entering the base. Police fined warning shots in the air and warned the pickets to move back, but they did not, and a fight between police and strikers ensued.

The strike by the 10.000strong naval base labour union entered its twentysecond day today. According to a navy spokesman. more than 1000 workers are ignoring the strike action and continuing to work.
