Tribute Paid To Pilot

(N.Z. Press Association) DANNEVIRKE, Oct. 29.

A tribute was paid to the memory of one of New Zealand’s oldest pilots when a Tiger Moth cut its engine and dipped its wings at the funeral of Mr J. R. Franklin, at Herbertville, yesterday. Mr Franklin, formerly of Ti Tree Point, had held his pilot’s licence until it was cancelled on his 76th birthday four years ago. On that day, he won an aerial-bombing competition in Waipukurau.

Bridge Traffic.—A total of 96,700 vehicles crossed the Auckland Harbour Bridge in the four days from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 am. yesterday.— (P.A.)
