Woodchop Record Broken Twice

GREYMOUTH. Oct. 28. In the New Zealand 11-ineh underhand chopping event at the first carnival of the season M Mawheraiti on Saturday, the existing record of 19 3-s*ec was twice broken. In the first heat. D Seymour (Ahaura) won tn 18 3-ssec. and then in the final C. Daikie (Karamea) returned the time of 13*ec. This was the major event on the programme. The log* used were kamahi. and proved to be of exceptionally good quality. The new electric judging machine was in operation for the first time, and ft gave every satisfaction. It registered its first tie when two competitors eohjd not be separated for a fourth placing. More than » members of the Reefton Pony Club gave a much-appreciated display, and a sheep-shearing competition was also keenly followed. Race* for children and novelty events made up a programme which drew a very large attendance.
