Reluctance Expressed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, October 25. A Fiji Parliamentarian has made a plea to Britain not to give the island independence, reports the “Daily Express.” Mr Ravuama Vunivalu. a member of the Fiji Legislative Council speaking in Suva, said the island does not want independence.
It wants to be “as British as the Isle at Man ” The British Government had told the Fijians this was impossible, the newspaper said.
