Obituary MR S. L. PATERSON

(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER. October 21. A .ormer stipendiary magistrate, in Hamilton and Auckland, Mr Stanley Logan Paterson, died at has home in Napier yesterday. He was 71. Bom in Napier, Mr Paterson was educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School and Canterbury University Colwas interested in the youth welfare and held office in the Boy Scouts’ Association and the Boys’ Brigade. A year after he retired in 1956 Mir Paterson was appointed chairman of the Railways Appeal Board. The Magistrate’s Court at Napier adjourned today for a short period as a mark of respect to Mr Paterson. Tributes to Mir Paterson and to Ms work were paid by Mr W A Harlow, SM., and by Mr G. E. Bisson, president of the Hawke’s Bay Law Society. MR E. R. KNIGHT (N.Z. Press Association) OTAKI, October 21. The Mayor of Otaki, Mr E R. Knight, died in hospital to Wellington today. He served on the Otaki Borough Council from 1963 to 1966. and in 1959 defeated the sitting Mayor, Mr R. McKeen. For a number of yean Mr Knight divided bos tone between market gardening and accountancy. He retired three yean ago and then devoted most of his time to civic affairs.
