ROAD TUNNEL INSPECTION
Members Of Fire Board
Members of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board were shown through the road tunnel yesterday as guests of the ChristchurchLyttelton Road Tunnel Author, ty.
With the board's chief fire officer (Mr L R. Osmond) members were interested particularly in seeing the provision made for emergency services and hearing from the authority’s genera] manager ‘Mr L H. Wilson) about the electronic controls which will cover any breakdown or fire. On the way to the tunnel mouth at Heathcote they were shown the bridge over the river which will be the start of the tunnel motorway and which is only a short distance from the new Woolston fire station.
At Heathcote, the project manager for the contractors (Mr J Lukas) explained the progress of the tunne] and the visitors were then driven through to Lyttelton, seeing on the way the wall tiling. Placing of the alreadv-tiled concrete ceiling slabs and work on the overhead exhaust and intake system at the Lyttelton end.
