Beaton, a Bathurst schoolteacher said in a letter to newspapers' that no hospital would take his son, Michael, aged 13, because he was dying of an incurable disease known as muscular dystrophy. In Perth, the crippled children’s home said it was prepared to take Michael.
Offers from other states of financial help and nursing services followed. Mr Beaton said there were hundreds of cases like his. He will accept a choice of three hospitals in New South Wales.
