Tennis NEW POINTS SYSTEM

Scoring For Club Games

The senior men's, women’s and reserve grades in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s competitions will this season be played with a new points system. The competitions committee has adopted the system, discussed before, by which a winning team gains 10 points and each team gams a point for individual matches won. Thus a team which won by 4 matches to 2 would gain 14 points and the losing team two. To win the competition a teem must have a margin of ait least 10 points at the end, otherwise a play-off will be necessary.

Mr R. P. Murphy, chairman of the competitions committee, said the advantage of the system was that it made all matches mean something and there could be no slackening off by players when contests had already been decided.

Apart from this change, competitions will be in the same grades and under the same systems as last season with the senior men dividing into two sections at the end of the first round as before. Entries will close on October 14 and starting dates will be as follows:—Senior men, November 2; senior women, November 2; senior reserve, November 9; second grade men, November 9; first grade A. November 2; first grade B. October 26; second grade mixed. October 19.
