230 GUESTS FOR JEWELLERS’ BALL

Coloured balloons and streamers decorated the 99 Club last evening when the 1963 jewellers’ conference ball was held there. Bowls of spring blossom stood in the foyer and ballroom. Some 230 persons attended the ball, including delegates who had travelled from many parts of New Zealand ‘to attend the conference, the first to be held here since 1958.

Guests were welcomed by Mr A. L. Malcolm, chairman of the Canterbury-Westland branch of the Jewellers’ Association of New Zealand, and Mrs Malcolm.

Specially-invited guests included Mr J. M. Heinemann, national president, and Mrs Heinemann, of Wellington; Mr P. H. Mayer, national vice - president, and Mrs Mayer, of Wellington; Mr H. B. Johnson, immediate pastpresident, and Mrs Johnson, of Auckland. Mrs Heinemann wore a gown of black silk, with a softly swathed skirt. Flamecoloured duchess satin was chosen by Mrs Johnson for

her gown, which was designed on draped, sheath lines.

Mrs Mayer chose peacock blue for her gown, ballerina length, worn with a matching stole. Mrs Malcolm wore a floor-length gown in semisheath style, of emerald green lace.

Members of the conference social committee which organised the ball were Messrs M. Harry (convener), K. P. Morrison, M. Morrison, and J. McConchie.
