WORLD SOCIAL SECURITY
NX Department To ‘ 1 1 Join Others (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. Government approval for the Social Security Department to become a member of the International Social Security Association has been granted the Minister of Social Security (Mr McKay) announced today. The Social Security Commission should have the closest possible liaison with other social security administrations throughout’ the world, tn benefit from their experience, said Mr McKay, and the practical experience the department could bring to I.S.S.A. discussions would be appreciated by other countries, particularly those of South-east Asia. The I.S.S.A. was established in 1927 under the auspices of the International Labour Organisation, which continues to supply its secretariat and a proportion of its budget. At present it has 195 organisations in 83 countries affiliated to it. The association concentrates on technical and administrative improvement of social security administrations throughout the world. It does not overlap the International Labour Organisation, which is concerned mainly with policy and legislation. Meetings of the 1.5.5. A.. held regularly, give social security administrations the opportunity of discussing their problems and planning steps for their solution.
