CRANE CAB GUTTED
I A Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10.
Firemen had a job out of the ordinary in Thorndon quay today when a passer-by spotted flames in a crane cabin 120 ft above the ground.
They lugged bucket pumps up eight flights of stairs to the top of a building under construction. then two of them clambered another 40ft to the blazing cabin. But they were too late to prevent the cabin being gutted. Damage was estimated at several hundred pounds.
Only a short time before. the operator. Mr L. Stephenson, of Tauranga. had descended for his lunch.
