Obituary MISS ADA STALKER

Miss Ada Stalker, who died in Christchurch last week in her eighty-first year, was the last member of a pioneer Woodend family. Her parents, Mr and Mrs Joseph Stalker, were married in England in 1863 and arrived at Lyttelton in 1864, after a journey lasting nearly 17 weeks. They settled at Woodend and named their home “Beach House.” Miss Ada Stalker, who was one of a family of 12, lived most of her life at Woodend until about eight years ago. when she moved to Rangiora. A devout member of the Woodend Methodist Church, Miss Stalker lived a retiring life devoted to her relatives. Those who have survived her remember her as a generous hostess who always kept open house to them.

Wahines Club.—Mrs A. Rowe presided at a recent hui held by the Christchurch Wahines’ Club, when Mrs Cara Cogswell and Miss Gilda Parkin were guest artists Sketches were given by Mesdames F. Howarth, E. Williams, M. Hutton, M. Whitehouse, A. Mullens, A. Lamb, B. Sharp, and E. Wilson. A programme entitled “Dancing Through the Years” was presented by Mesdames S. Sarginson, S. Naysmith, M Newman. J. Percival, E Blazey, K. Coombes and N McPherson. Mrs J. McKnight compered a parade of lingerie.
