£650 FOR GOLDIE
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 10 The £650 paid in Auckland today for a Goldie oil, “Portrait of Pipi Haerehuke,” is believed to be a record price for a Goldie painting. The painting was sold privately to an Auckland businessman, Mr Owen Rainger, after its withdrawal from an art auction yesterday when bididng failed to pass £625. Measuring 13? in by lljin, the ail is signed and dated 1938. After-sale purchases have now taken the proceeds from the auction to more than £3OOO.
