Shaw Savill Commodore
Captain J. L. Hopkins, of the Southern Cross, is the new commodore of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. Bom in Birmingham, Captain Hopkins trained as a cadet in H.MS. Worcester which he joined in 1915. He served in World War H in the Royal Naval Reserve, which he joined in 1917 as a temporary midshipman. After gaining his master’s certificate in 1927. Captain Hopkins joined Shaw Savill as fourth officer of the Tainui. His first command was the Waimana. Among other ships be has commanded are the Gothic and the Dominion Monarch.
Captain Hopkins lives at Bath.
The retiring commodore. Captain A. C. Jones, of the Corin thic, will continue to live at Hythe, Kent
