DISTILLERY DIVIDEND

6 p.c. Maiden Payment

During the year ended July 31, 1963, the New Zealand Distillery Company, Ltd., paid a maiden dividend of 6 per cent. This is revealed in the annual accounts of Maling and Company, Christchurch wine and spirit merchants. The Christchurch firm holds 500 shares in the distillery company, on which it received a dividend of £3O this year, compared with nothing the previous year. The distillery firm was floated in 1960, with an initial shareholding comprising Dominion Breweries, New Zealand Breweries and the principal wine and spirit merchants throughout the Dominion. On July 31 of that year Maling’s holding of shares in the company was shown (at cost) at £lOO. This figure rose to £350 in 1961 and £5OO in 1962. In the year ended December, 1962, 360,329 proof gallons of gin distilled in New Zealand were received into bonded warehouses, and 283,906 gallons were taken out for home consumption.
