Count One To Stay Home
“The Press” Special Service MATAMATA. September 10. T. C. Alcock said today that Count One is to be withdrawn from his Australian engagements. His owner, Mr G. Millington, of Whangarei, has not been well and will not be able to make the trip. Wet tracks have prevented Count One having the preparatory racing his connexions would have liked. Count One has been the medium of quite a lot of Australian betting for the Caulfield Cup.
New Trainer For Final Command
“Tile Press” Special Service MATAMATA, September 10. Final Command’s trainer, M. B. Abbot, has told trie owner, Mr W. A. Mellowes, that he would like to be relieved of training the gelding because of ill-health. He is to enter hospital for an operation. Negotiations have been taking place between Mr Mellowes and American interests. If they are not concluded the gelding will probably enter A. Cook’s Te Awamutu stable within the next week or two. Final Command went from hack class to win a weight-for-age race, and the Easter Handicap, at Ellerslie, within a few months. He was the most improved three-year-old in the country last autumn, ranking second only to Tatua in the eyes of most northerners. He is by Final Court from Expansion.
