BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Observance On
Sunday
The commemoration of the Battle of Britain will take place in Christchurch on Sunday morning. There will be a street parade, a wreathlaying ceremony a fly-past and church services.
Taking part will be a contingent of airmen from the Royal New Zealand Air Force station at Wigram, and representatives of former servicemen’s organisations. The parade will form in Victoria square and march off at 10.10 a.m. along Colombo street to Cathedral square. At about 10.20 a.m. the w’reath-laying ceremony will begin at the Citizens’ War Memorial in the cathedral grounds. A fly-past by planes from Wigram will follow. “Reveille” will be sounded and the parade will march around the ■north-east side of the cathedral, along Worcester street to Latimer square, along the west side of the square to Hereford street and into Madras street for dismissal. The church services will be held in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Cashel street.
The parade will be led by the Wigram band. If the weather is wet only the wreath-laying and church services will be held, the wreath-laying to take place at 10.40 a.m.
