REACTION OF CHILE
Duty To Make Fears Known (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SANTIAGO, September 5. Chile “has the duty of expressing its fears” about French plans to stage nuclear tests in the Pacific, a high Foreign Ministry official said today, the Associated Press reported. “We have strong histone ties with France and very friendly relations with the French Government,” the official said, “but we must express the inconvenience of holding such tests in the Pacific.” Chile had more than 3000 miles of Pacific coasts and depended largely on t the Pacific for food. Islands populated by Chilean citizens were not very far from the test area. The Peruvian Foreign Ministry had no comment today.
