UNIVERSITY VACANCIES THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES Invites applications for appointment to the position of PROFESSOR OF ELECTRONIC COMPUTATION AND DIRECTOR OF THE DIGITAL COMPUTING LABORATORY SCHOOL OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Salary will be £A4605 per annum. Provision has been made for a modern computing laboratory within the new building for the School of Electrical Engineering on the Kensington site. It is expected that a new computer will be installed in this laboratory within the next 18 months. Subject to the consent of the University Council. Professors may undertake a limited amount of higher consultative work. The Department provides courses for undergraduate and postgraduate smaents in the f aculties oi Medicine, Science and Dental Science.

Both posts will be available from January 1, 1964, and the temporary appointment will be for a perioa of up to two years. For the temporary lectureship preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching Histology. The salary range for the positions is £A1750-£ A 2450 p.a. Superannuation similar to F.S.S.U. will apply to the permanent Lectureship. Graduates with capacity for research who wish to proceed to tile degree 'of PhD. are invited to apply for scholarships tenable in either the Institute of Advanced Studies, which is composed of the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research Schools of Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and. Pacific Studies, or the School of General Studies, in which there are Faculties of Arts, Economics, Law, Oriental Studies and Science. A scholarship is awarded initially for two years, but normally will be extended for the whole period of the course, usually three years. The scholarship allowance is EA9SO per annum tax free (EA1372 per annum tax tree for scholars with appropriate qualifications in medicine). Married scholars with dependent children are granted additional allowances of £A3IO per annum for the first child and EA9O for each other child. Scholars are exempted from University fees. Fares to and from Canberra are paid. Assistance with housing is provided for most scholars. The fields in which scholarships are tenable are as follows ; Astronomy, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Electron Microscopy, Experimental Pathology, Genetics, Geology.
