TROTTING CARINA STAR AND DREAMING FANCIED

Two Prospects For New Brighton

Carina Star, in the Cambridge Handicap, a race for probationary drivers, and Dreaming, a candidate for the Ern. Smith Handicap, look to be two of the brightest prospects at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting today.

Carina Star has raced with distinction on soft tracks. He will have another big advantage over most of his rivals as a result of two races at Addington. He looked a shade unlucky when sixth in the Four-year-old Stakes, and a week later he beat all but Patchy in the Canterbury Challenge Stakes. He has drawn badly today, but that should not stop him racing prominently.

Frugal was slow away and never a danger at Addington. However, he went well at the recent Methven trials. The Morano gelding showed ability towards the end of last season and tie cculd be placed. Bonnie Lord was placed at Hutt Park and if his young driver can get the best from him. he could be prominent. Of the others. Officious Piper and Wlio’s That appeal most.

Dreaming trotted splendid races for a fourth and a sixth at Addington Last m>nth. If she goes as well again, she should gam a well-earned win in the Ern. Smith Handicap. Dreaming looks much stronger this season and she

should gain several wins. Kerry Cord showed ability in his races at Hutt Park and he should be much-improved. He will be bracketed with Queen’s Cord, the winner of two races at Hutt Park on Wednesday. The combination will be in demand.

Grand Charge should do best of ttte others on the front, while Gay Jillian, Minnow, Harbour Light and Foam could also add interest to the finish. The double will be r i on the Johns Handicap and the B. J. McKenna Handicap, Master Alan and Vanderlord forming a likely combination. Unsettled weather is forecast and the track is expected to be soft.
