Non-Payment Of Fares

People who evaded taxi fares came under fire at the Tasti Proprietors' Federation conference in Rotorua this afternoon.
The conference passed a Southland remit that a regulation relating to a maximum fine of £5O being imposed where a hirer failed to pay a prescribed fare on demand should be brought to the notice of the public by advertising. The newly-elected president, Mr J. R. Wilkinson (Hutt Valley) said he had heard of passengers who did not pay their fares denying any liability when ‘ approached the next day. Such persons should be placed n charge by the taxi proprietor or driver.
