AKRON (Ohio), Sept 6. Whether he finishes first or fourth and last, New Zealand’s British Open champion, K. J. Charles, is assured of a big money prize in the 36hole world series at Akron, Ohio, this week-end, Associated Press reported. Charles' opponents in this four-man event will be Julius Boros, the United States Open champion, Jack Nicklaus, the Masters and P.G.A. titleholder, and Arnold Palmer, golf’s top moneywinner this season with over 100,000 dollars. First prize in the world series is 50,000 dollars (about £22,300), the run-
ner-up will collect 15.000 dollars, and the next two 5000 dollars each. Charles did not fancy his chances of winning during yesterday’s practice. He described the 7165-yard par 70 course as “to® long” and said he was still figuring out how to play it. Palmer was today stricken with painful bursitis in his right shoulder. After a practice round, be said: “It hurts every time I hit the ball. “Right now it hurts more than it did earlier in the day. But it isn’t the pain that bothers me. I can’t hit the ball right, especially on my drives.”
