Only one South Is'and player. C. Cotton, of Nelson, was Included by the New Zealand men's basketball sole selector iMr J. G. Hamlin) in the final training squad for the New Zealand team to tour Fonnoea in November.
Mr Hamlin hae chosen a squad with a mixture of young and old players, and one which contained a number of startling surprises. Not the least unexpected was his selection of th* aging former Czechoslovakian Olympic representative, C. Benecek (Auckland).
Only six members of the 1962 New Zealand team have been included. A notable absentee is the outstanding Otago forward. L. Pearson, who has been one of the highest scorers at the New Zealand championships Another surprise omission was that of D Charlett (Neilsoni. another prolific scorer.
