Table Tennis Dunn, Miss Davies Retain N.Z. Titles

NAPIER, Sept. 6.
M. L. Dunn, of Wellington, once again showed he has no master in New Zealand at table tennis when he won his fourth national singles title at Napier tonight. In the final, Dunn defeated A. R Tomlinson, of Auckland, in straight sets. Miss N. Davis (Northland) also retained her women’s singles title, beating Miss N. Attwood (Northland), in five sets.
Dunn crushed Tomlinson in the first set of their final, repeatedly sending Tomlinson scrambling back with crashing drives, to win 21-10. In the second set. Tomlinson led 10-5 and 18-15, but Dunn calmly made it 19-all and won. 21-19. In the third set, Dunn poured on the power to lead 13-7. and carried on to win 21-14, Miss Davis won her third successive national singles title but not before she received a fright. Miss Davis started off perhaps a little too confidently, and lost the first two sets But she settled down aind got on top of her rival to take the last three. Results of today’s matches were:—
