SLACKS BAN SLACKENED
Even-Officials Impressed (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. «. No New Zealanders wore slacks on tihe first day of ®be New Zealand Women's Open golf tournatnenit at Titinangi, but five of the eight Canadian and Brw_sh players did. Slacks are prohibited on New Zealand golf courses, except hi rain, and then by permission only. It was agreed to allow slacks, and even Bermuda Shorts in the open because of the visiting players. Of the British players, Mirs Marley Spearman wore ’bight-fiti’iing emerald green slacks with a green silk fleck which shone in the sun. Miss Shieia Vaughan wore kmg grey slacks with elastic under (her fleet in the style of ski pants, while Miss Julia Greentalgh wore grey slacks which exposed about three inches of bright red socks. The tiwo Canadians. Misses Gayle Hitchens and Rae Mulligan, looked extremely neat in quiet, well-tailored green slacks, which impressed even the officials of the New Zealand Ladles* Golf Union.
