Sunday Soccer League Under Discussion
The Wellington Football Association is Interested in the Canterbury association’s views on Sunday soccer. A letter asking for its opinions, with regard to public reaction, spectator support and financial aspect, was read at a meeting of the management committee last evening. However, the Canterbury association will only acknowledge the letter and inform the Wellington association that the question will be discussed at the half-yearly general meeting of the C.F.A. The president (Mr J. Smith, said that at the two Sunday matches held this year, the support of the public had been good. Mr R. Storer added that the "public support" could be assessed at the match on Sunday between North Shore (Auckland) and a Technical Invitation XI.
Mr E. H. Williams, the secretary. said that Wellington had missed mention of the availability of grounds but Mr Smith felt that this could come under the “financial aspect." “From what I can gather.' continued Mr Smith, "the only objectlion from clubs would be that some players would not be available on religious grounds.” Mr Williams said that the clubs reactions could not be heard at the half-yearly meeting unless something concrete was done in regard to the grounds. His proposal that the two clubs with their own grounds— Western and Rangers—be asked for their terms for the leasing of the grounds for a "Sunday League” was passed.
