RUGBY LEAGUE Two Unbeaten Sides Meet In Decider

Canterbury and Auckland were the only unbeaten teams after the third round of the annual national schoolboys’ Rugby League ' tournament in Christchurch yesterday. They are due to meet today in a match that should decide the tournament.

Points are: Auckland, Canterbury 6; Waikato 4; Bay of Plenty 2; Wellington, West Coast 0. Yesterday’s results were:— Canterbury 19, Bay of Plenty 12; Auckland 35, Wellington 0; Waikato 24, West Coast 0; Canterbury 48, Wellington 0; Bay of Plenty 14, West Coast 2; Auckland 26, Waikato 5. In the morning match, against Bay of Plenty, Canterbury did not produce the form it showed against West Coast. The backs lacked penetration and the forwards could not take command. Bay of Plenty went to a 10-5 lead in the first half through two good tries, by P. Orchard and A. James. Two Fine Tries In the Canterbury forwards, M. J. Perreau was outstanding. His two fine tries in the second spell turned the game his team'.s way. The Canterbury backs lost their leader, F. M. Endacott, but K. E. Kennett played well and made several breaks, and D. J. Carroll was safe at full-back. For Canterbury, Perreau (2) and G. R. Cooksley scored tries. M. D. Flattery kicked a penalty and two conversions and Cox kicked a penalty. P. Orchard scored a fry, two conversions and a penalty for Bay of Plenty and James scored a try.

Auckland showed vast improvement in defeating Wellington, 35-0. I. Cossey, the hooker, and W. Green and B Mincham. in the backs, all had good games. For Auckland. Mincham (2), Green (2), R. Walsh, L. Sewell, B. Ryan, I. Cossey, and B. Peters scored tries. I. Cossey kicked four goals. In the third game Waikato scared a decisive 24-0 victory over West Coast. The bigger Waikato forwards, led by H. M. Henare and W. H. Muru, crashed through the Coast defence. The West Coast lost L. Grant, its best forward, early in the game and the loss was painfully evident. For Waikato. H. M. Henare (2), M. N. Beazley (2). W. H. Muru and R. W. Joyce scored tries. P. Ravlich kicked three goals. Runaway Victory Canterbury scored a runaway vietpry over Wellington in the afternoon. After leading 22-0 at half-time. Canterbury coasted to a 48-0. win. Perreau played another great game in the forwards, ably supported by Cox and L. N. Austin. The Canterbury backs were fitter, faster and better handlers than their opponents. For Canterbury, tries were scored by Perreau (3), Cooksley (2), Cox (2). G. D. Pulley (2), Whitehead, Tucker and Lanauze Flattery kicked five goals and Cox one. Auckland defeated Waikato, 26-5, its backs taking control and scoring many splendid tries. For Auckland. B. Ryan (3). W. Green, R. Appleton and B. Hammond scored tries. I. Cossey kicked four goals. M. J. Angus scored for Waikato and M. N Beazley converted. West Coast registered its first points but lost to Bay of Plenty, 14-2. For Bay of Plenty. Orchard, S. James. A. James and T. Mohr scored tries, one converted by Orchard. E. Blackmore kicked s penalty for Coast.
