Whisky Price The price of Scotch whisky will rise by 6d to 38s a quail in Dunedin hotels today. This was the result of a recent increase of Is a quart in the wholesale price from merchants to hotels, Mr A. Tilbury, president of the Dunedin Hotel Association said yesterday. “The hotels can't absorb the increase. We have to pass some of it on” he said, “and 6d has been agreed on.” Even with the rise Dunedin hotels would be selling whisky for at least 2s less a quart than most North Island hotels, he said. U.S. Scholarships Forty-five secondary school pupils left Wellington for the United States by air yesterday on American Field Service scholarships. They will study at schools throughout the United States for the next few months. Accompanying them on today’s flight were 26 American youngsters returning home after eight months of study here. Schoolboys’ Tour Six boys from Wanganui Technical College left Wellington on Saturday for a three-week study tour in South-east Asia. Led by their geography master, the boys will visit Singapore, Malaya, and Thailand. Board Meeting For the first time in the history of the National Airways Corporation its board will hold a meeting in Christchurch this week. Usually the board meets in Wellington but has on two occasions met in Auckland. There was no particular reason for the decision to hold the meeting in Christchurch, said the corporation's branch manager in Christchurch (Mr J. E. Davies). Braille Week A total of £27,077 was collected by the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, during Braille Week. Of this £16,077 came from Christchurch city and suburbs, the remaining £ll,OOO was collected from the rest of the branch’s area—the South Island, north of the Waitaki river. South Pacific Games

The South Pacific Commission will be represented at the South Pacific Games, beginning in Suva on August 29, by Dr. Richard Seddon, who is the commission’s executive officer for social development. He will be accompanied by Mrs Seddon. The commission granted the South Pacific Games Council £3600 this year to help purchase equipment for the games and to assist in promotion. The commission will also provide interpretation and translation services at the council meeting to be held in Suva during the games.
