Langton Scores 6 Tries In 53-0 Win
“Th« Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, August 25. Outclassed in all departments, a young Otago Rugby League representative side was thrashed by Canterbury’, 53-0, at the Caledonian Ground, Dunedin, on Saturday.
Backs and forwards combined well throughout, and Canterbury had a feast of the ball. It kept up the pressure and took the initiative for almost all the game. Otago made a brief recovery shortly after the start of the second half, and K
Donalds and A. Devine led forays into Canterbury territory.
However, superior handling and a good cover-defence thwarted any attempts to penetrate. The top scorer for Canterbury was B. Langton with 18 points (six tries), closely followed by L. Drayton with 17. Drayton kicked seven conversions and scored one try. His kicking was consistently good, and he showed pace and initiative in the loose. Other try scorers for Canterbury were E Tavendale (three), J. Martin (two) and J. Bray. The referee was Mr W. H. Coombs.
